Little Tasmanian project evaluation: Share your Little Tasmanian library bag story

Becoming a parent or carer of a new baby can be one of the biggest moments in life. The goal of Little Tasmanian is to welcome the youngest Tasmanians and their families into being Tasmanian from the very first days.

It’s been three years since Little Tasmanian launched. Since then, thousands of families across the state have received Little Tasmanian library bags.

If you were one of them, we want to hear from you.

What is it like parenting or caring for young children in Tasmania today?

What did you think of the Little Tasmanian library bag, and how can we improve?

This project evaluation is a research partnership between the University of Tasmania, Brand Tasmania and the Department of Health.

By taking part, you will influence the future of Little Tasmanian and help support families by passing on your feedback to the ‘Little Tasmanian Village’ of service providers.

What’s involved
  1. Check you’re eligible to participate
  2. Fill out the survey
  3. Put your hand up to do an interview with the project team (optional)

We know family life is busy, so the survey is mostly multiple-choice questions.

  1. Eligibility criteria

We are looking for parents and carers who:

    • Are aged 18 or older
    • Are currently living in Tasmania
    • Are a parent or carer of a baby born in Tasmania on 1 January 2023 or later
    • Received a Little Tasmanian library bag from their Child and Family Health Nurse
  2. Exclusion criteria

    You are not eligible if:

    • You are aged under 18
    • You are currently living outside of Tasmania, even if you received a Little Tasmanian library bag
    • Your child was born before 1 January 2023 or born outside of Tasmania
    • You received a Little Tasmanian library bag or other Little Tasmanian items from someone other than a Child and Family Health Nurse (for example, a friend or family member)

  3. What do I receive for taking part?

We want to ensure the program can continue to reach future new little Tasmanians and their families, and your feedback will be an instrumental part of that effort.

Participants can choose to enter a prize draw to receive one of five $50 gift cards.

Contact details are stored in a separate survey platform and cannot be connected to your survey responses.

You will need to provide an address within Tasmania for the gift card to be posted to you.

You can view terms and conditions for the prize draw here.

Get Started
  1. 1.

What is the total time commitment?

The survey takes about 7-10 minutes to complete.

It’s mostly multiple-choice questions, but there are a few free text questions where you can add extra thoughts if you want to. The free text questions are optional.

  2. 2.

Is the survey only available online?

We don’t have phone, email, post, or in person options for the survey at this time. If you would like to share your thoughts on Little Tasmanian outside the survey, you are most welcome to contact welcome@brandtasmania.com.au.

  3. 3.

What kinds of questions will I be asked?

    The survey includes questions about:

    • Your connection to Tasmania
    • Your thoughts on parenting/caring for young children in Tasmania
    • Your experience of receiving a Little Tasmanian library bag
    • Your feedback on what was inside the bag
    • Your feedback on Little Tasmanian digital resources
    • Your ideas for Little Tasmanian

We also ask a few personal questions, for example your age and gender, so we know that people from a variety of backgrounds have done the survey.

  4. 4.

How can I sign up to do an interview?

You can express interest in having a one-on-one conversation with us by completing the full survey and submitting it at the end.

Interviews have the same eligibility criteria as the survey.

  5. 5.

How do I enter the prize draw?

You can enter the prize draw by completing the full survey.

You must be living in Tasmania to be eligible.

  6. 6.

Can I withdraw from the study?

Your survey responses save as you move from page to page, but you can go back and change your answers all the way up until you hit 'Submit'.

Once you have submitted the survey, you will not be able to withdraw. As your survey responses are anonymous, we won’t be able to track or remove them.

How is my information kept safe?

    All survey responses are anonymous.

Contact details are stored in a separate survey platform. Exported data is stored on password-protected devices, and contact information is only accessible by the research team.
